Request a Late Schedule Change for a Student
Log into your Workday account from your Sign-On Dashboard.
- In the Workday search bar, search for and select the Late Schedule Change - Admin application. This application will also be available on several dashboards used by advisors and college or departmental staff.
- Select Request Schedule Change for Student. You can also view any requests you’ve previously made on behalf of a student by selecting Open Requests.
- Search for and select the student’s name in the Student Search field. The student’s information will populate the fields below.
- To change what section of a course the student is registered for, select Section Change and wait for the page to populate with more fields.
- Search for and select the section the student wants to change from. The list will only display sections the student is currently registered for.
You may see an alert telling you there are no other sections (or non-lecture sections) to change to.
- Search for and select the section the student wants to switch to. If the Section to Change To list is empty, that means there are no other sections for that course. Please note that you will not be able to see section meeting patterns on this screen. To review section meeting patterns and other information so that you can identify the correct section to switch to, refer to the Find or Register for ISU Course Sections report.
- If applicable, search for and select the associated non-lecture section to change to.
- Search for and select the section the student wants to change from. The list will only display sections the student is currently registered for.
- To request a change in the number of credits the student will earn for a variable credit course, select Credit Change and wait for the page to populate with more fields.
- Select the variable credit course the student is registered for. Workday will display the Current Credits the student is registered for and the Course Credit Range. If the student is not registered for a variable credit course, the list will be blank.
- Enter the number of credits the student wants to change to in the New Credit field.
- Select the variable credit course the student is registered for. Workday will display the Current Credits the student is registered for and the Course Credit Range. If the student is not registered for a variable credit course, the list will be blank.
- To add a new course to the student’s schedule, select Late Course Add and wait for the page to populate with more fields.
- Enter the first few letters of the course subject into the Course To Add field and press Enter on your keyboard. Select the course the student wants to add from the list.
- Select the section the student wants to add.
- Enter additional information in the fields as necessary.

- select Submit. This will begin the routing process to obtain approvals, including the instructor of the course, the student’s advisor, and any other approvals necessary.
- The instructor will receive a notification in their My Tasks inbox alerting them to act on the request. The instructor will review the task and can either Approve, Send Back, Add Approvers, or Deny.
- After the instructor has approved, the advisor will receive a notification in their My Tasks inbox alerting them to act on the request. The advisor will see any comments left by the instructor, and that the instructor has approved the request. The advisor will review the task and can either Approve, Send Back, Add Approvers, or Deny.
The student will be notified when the request has been approved, which they can view by selecting Notifications in the top right corner of Workday.
The student can confirm their new schedule in Workday by navigating to the Academics Dashboard, then the Current Classes tab.
