National Guard and Armed Forces Reserve Components
Eligibility for In-State Tuition
Current Members
Current members of the National Guard and Armed Forces Reserve components who are assigned to an Iowa unit and who have either completed initial entry training or who have served at least one year of their commitment maybe eligible for in-state tuition and fees.
Non-resident students will remain classified as non-resident while being assessed in-state tuition and fees. Please be aware that receiving in-state tuition may impact student financial aid, scholarship and grant awards.
To request in-state tuition, submit documentation that verifies completion of initial entry training or 12 months of service and assignment to an Iowa unit, to the Office of the Registrar as indicated below.
Approved documentation will include one of the following:
- Copy of DD214
- Enlistment/Reenlistment Document

Current orders
Full-Time National Guard and Rock Island
Members of the Iowa National Guard on full-time National Guard duty and full-time members of the Armed Forces Reserve components with assigned duty in the state of Iowa or at Rock Island Arsenal and their dependent children and spouses/domestic partners immediately qualify for in-state tuition assessment.
Non-resident
students will remain classified as non-resident while being assessed
in-state tuition and fees. Please be aware that receiving in-state
tuition may impact student financial aid, scholarship and grant awards. To request in-state tuition, submit required documentation to the Office of the Registrar.
Approved documentation includes:
- Military Personnel: Copy of T10/T32 AD orders
- Dependent child: Copy of servicemember’s T10/T32 AD orders and copy of documentaion showing dependent is registred in DEERS (i.e. dependents ID card).
- Spouse: Copy of servicemember’s T10/T32 AD orders and copy of documentaion showing dependent is registred in DEERS (i.e. dependents ID card).
- Domestic partner: Copy of servicemember’s T10/T32 AD orders and Affidavit of Domestic Partner Relationship
Former Members
Former members of the Iowa National Guard who served 20 honorable years and earned military retirement qualify for in-state tuition assessment. Service on federal active duty is not required.
To request
in-state tuition, submit required documentation to the Office of the
Registrar as indicated below.
Approved documentation includes:
- Copy of DD214 or NGB22
